Venezuela Culture

In all societies, there are various measurements that can be arranged into a continuum. Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck have elements of social examples, for example, normal human issues, favored arrangements and above all, a continuum. A continuum is the means by which things are evaluated by rates. For instance, joy. It could be either pretty much in specific circumstances. In Hofstede’s measurements of culture, there are two themes and just one can be higher in specific societies than others. The nation I decided to do is the way of life of Venezuela.Venezuela is fundamentally the same as the remainder of the Latin American nations however has uncommon qualities with regards to the measurements that Hofstede portrays. The elements of culture that will be talked about fall into the four regular ones: cooperation, power separation, manliness and low vulnerability shirking. Venezuela is a one of a kind nation with various thoughts that identify with their way of life. Venezuela falls into the cooperation classification. This implies the nation joins as one, concentrating on the requirements of gatherings as opposed to the individual themselves. The opposite side of the measurement is individualism.Individualism, as its name says, centers around the person where they need to sand up for themselves. Collectivists will in general have enormous, more distant families which keep ensuring them in return for unquestioning dependability (Individualism 2009). Likewise, they take a shot at getting talented at something they are keen on. Venezuelan individuals are tied in with being faithful to one another. They see all the more great in a gathering, than great in the person. In Venezuela, the work power has grown significantly in the course of recent decades. The joblessness rate has been exceptionally low and even lady have been getting jobs. The government has cooperated so that nearly everybody is utilized. Work relations in Venezuela were consultative instead of angry , and the Confederation of Venezuelan Workers had great working associations with the significant business gathering, the Federation of Chambers and Associations of Commerce and Production (Haggerty, 1993). Contrasted with other Latin American nations, there wasn’t a terrible instance of work relations. The administration needed to ensure everybody in Venezuela was working. It’s great to be a community culture since everybody comes and cooperates as a group.Power separation is another measurement that can be delegated either high or low. This is controlled by how much a culture has regard for power. High force separation concentrates more on higher status of intensity. Educators, guardians and administrators are treated with deference and are relied upon to show authority. Low force separation is somewhat more laid back. Individuals can converse with whomever they need about anything. For instance, a representative can converse with their administrator about remarks fo r the organization or business they work for. Venezuela falls into the powerful separation category.People with world class status are progressively taught and center basically around their business and callings. Venezuela was one of the not very many nations in Latin America where various first class upheld academic and network government assistance establishments offered help for a creative assortment of projects and grants (Haggerty 1993). Individuals in working class regard the world class. Thought it is conceivable to climb from working class to tip top, this can just occur through effective business bargains or by marriage. In any case, Venezuelans know to regard the authority any place they are. Venezuela has a president and VP who serve multi year terms. The president picks his bureau and decides the quantity of services. The president is the principle chief in control whom everybody gazes upward to. He orders the military, calls exceptional meetings of the Congress, and acti vities sole control of international strategy (Haggerty 1993). Venezuela follows a legislative arrangement where the president has the most noteworthy status, trailed by the VP, at that point it gets lower from that point on. Having high force separation doesn't really subvert the populace, however is acknowledged by the entire Venezuelan culture as one. Manliness versus gentility, in opposition to it’s name, has more to do than just sexual orientation roles. Some manly qualities center around a serious economy, striving to get by, and battling because of contentions. Societies with this measurement are increasingly forceful. Gentility then again centers around all the more quieting highlights. For instance, haggling to determine clashes, ladies are speaking to in the administration and attempting to carry on with a decent life. Venezuela for this situation is increasingly manly. They are more forceful than different societies. Savagery and wrongdoing expanded obviously in the most recent many years of the twentieth century and have become significant issues of famous concern (Dinneen 2003).Having higher crime percentages, however that’s not generally something worth being thankful for, shows the manliness in the way of life. Men take most of the force with regards to government. In spite of the fact that the Constitution of 1960 pronounced that people were officially equivalent under the law, ladies who had been dynamic in the battle for majority rules system got themselves without its benefits and underestimated from legislative issues (Wagner 2005). Despite the fact that it said ladies were similarly as equivalent as men, that didn’t satisfy its statement. Ladies were still not permitted to take part in higher governmental issues and businesses. They were relied upon to remain at home and deal with the house and kids. Venezuela is positioned higher in the manly measurement among the entirety of the other Latin American nations. Venezuelaà ¢â‚¬â„¢s vulnerability evasion is viewed as lower than the other Latin American nations. A few characteristics of low vulnerability shirking incorporate receptiveness to change, resistance of assorted variety and keep down feelings. Where as in high vulnerability shirking, they will in general observe exacting guidelines, express feelings, and have a powerless enthusiasm for governmental issues. The objective of the way of life is to control nearly everything so as to maintain a strategic distance from the unexpected. Thanks to their requirement for security, Venezuelan chiefs face less challenges, oversee with increasingly composed principles and experience lower work turnover (Workman 2008). There have been procedures of social and political changes. Proposals forms have pulled in increasingly universal consideration throughout the years and for additional to come. Venezuela was the world’s driving exporter of oil. Venezuelan’s pioneers needed to focus on the oil busi ness as the primary wellspring of financing for their reformist monetary and social arrangements (Haggerty 1993). They weren’t hesitant to discover new non bureau services and structure new arrangements to extend their economy.Even with the monetary emergencies that happened with the breakdown of the money related framework in 1994, the administration attempted to get it back up. With regards to contrasts, Venezuelans attempt to investigate the issue. They are interested to what is happening. On the off chance that they have to roll out an improvement, they will do as such and face the challenge. For instance, during the 1980’s Venezuela had an enormous remote trade income from oil. Along these lines, they built up an insatiable interest for imported extravagance merchandise that endured even as oil costs ebbed in the mid do late 1980’s (Haggerty 1993).This brought about a shortcoming in the Venezuelan economy. Despite the fact that this occurred, the administra tion wasn’t reluctant to face the challenge. Taking everything into account, Venezuela has a wide range of attributes that make them a one of a kind culture. Being an aggregate culture, they join as one. They like to concentrate on everybody as a gathering to ensure everybody is fulfilled. They additionally fall into the powerful separation class. Venezuela has high force authority that is regarded by everybody. In the event that they have questions, the individuals with high status will have all the answers.Venezuela is likewise a manly culture. Men rule over ladies for occupations and force. Likewise, this makes the nation more forceful than others. They go to bat for themselves and aren’t scared of whatever interacts with them. At last, Venezuela has low vulnerability shirking. They will face a challenge in the event that they need to and they aren’t hesitant to show feeling. This shows they are a solid nation that will make changes in the event that it is a worry. Venezuela is a very balanced culture with numerous extraordinary characteristics about them.

Ryan Dunehew Professor Tootle History 18, CRN 15 May 2017 One of America’s Most Defining Era’s Even though it did not completely end discrimination in America, the history surrounding World War II and the Civil Rights Movement was one of our nation’s most defining eras. The equality of the country had never been focused on more than it was during this time. Segregation laws, also known as Jim Crow laws, were eradicated as a result, thus ending a long shameful period in US history. Or, at least starting its decline. Essay on Vilification of Women in American Literature

Vilification of Women in American Literature The Vilification of Women in The Great Gatsby and Ethan Frome Women have played an important role in American literature. Unfortunately, this role was often negative, without cause to be so. Edith Whartons Ethan Frome and F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby are examples of American literature in which women are needlessly vilified. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald presents three women in an especially bad light. Daisy Fay Buchanan, the narrators cousin, is the most obvious. Daisy is selfish and materialistic. She married her husband, Tom, because he was wealthy when he proposed to her. She ignored her true love, Jay Gatsby, because he was poor; this fact is evident when the two†¦show more content†¦Nick asks about the little girl, and Daisys only response on her first-born daughters life is O, I suppose she talks and eats- and everything (Fitzgerald 21). When Gatsby is visiting Daisy at her house, she only brings the little girl around because she wanted to show her off (Fitzgerald 123). Daisy uses her daughter to impress peop le, and does not have any real interest in the childs daily activities; these actions show her self-absorbed nature. Daisy appears immoral in The Great Gatsby. There is a corruption which underlies Daisys world (Goldenessays 1). She marries for money, turning herself basically into a prostitute. She is married, but one afternoon when Gatsby visits her at her house, she got up and went over to Gatsby, and pulled down his face to kiss him on the mouth (Fitzgerald 122). She considers leaving her husband for Gatsby. It is said that Daisy speaks in a low thrilling voice#8230;only to make people lean toward her (Fitzgerald 13). She gossips about whatever she wants, and believes everything she hears; when speaking to Nick about his rumored engagement, she said that she heard it from three people so it must be true (Fitzgerald 24). Daisys gossipy personality makes her appear uncaring for those around her. In addition to her lack of morals, Daisy is stupid. Role of the Gods in the Odyssey Free Essays

Religion has always been an important part of culture, in present times and even dating back to the times of the Trojan War and before. No matter what religion a person practices or believes in the role of the certain gods believed in has always been important. In three separate pieces we have read we have seen the importance of the gods, or God, play a key role in the development of the literature. We will write a custom essay sample on Role of the Gods in the Odyssey or any similar topic only for you Order Now In Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, the gods are key in Odysseus’ return to Ithaca after twenty years. Whether it is helping Odysseus or delaying him, they play a major role in the development of the story. In Psalm 139, the scripture passage taken from the Bible, God is a very obvious factor. Even in the poem by William Owen â€Å"Dulce et Decorum Est† God again plays a major role once we dive deeper than the words are saying. The role of the gods, or singular God in Catholicism, plays a key role, sometimes unspoken, part. In The Odyssey we see in the first book three major gods that make an immediate impact on Odysseus’ journey home. Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon all are important in their own way in either helping Odysseus or trying to stop him. Zeus, king of the gods, is characterized as a mediator between Athena and Poseidon, the former helping Odysseus and the latter trying to stop him from reaching home. Athena does all she can to help out the mortal Odysseus, even appearing to him and his son Telemachus in disguise to point them in the right direction. Poseidon, however, hates Odysseus for blinding his son and tries his hardest on multiple occasions to kill Odysseus and his men. Zeus, for being king of the gods, does not have the most important religious role in this epic poem. He is mostly seen as a babysitter between Athena and Poseidon, allowing Athena to help Odysseus but at the same time punishing the people who help out Odysseus. At one point, after Poseidon voiced his anger, he turns a Phaeacian ship to stone right when it returns because they helped Odysseus return home. His only involvement with Odysseus seems to be when he is trying to please both Athena and Zeus. Athena is a very key character in this poem. She takes a liking to the human Odysseus because of the intelligence and cunning that he naturally has. She personally gets involve in the lives of Telemachus and Odysseus by coming hem in disguise and helping them throughout their separate journeys. The grey-eyed goddess, as she is referred to many times, is responsible for setting Telemachus on the path to find out more about his father, and gives him the courage to stand up to the suitors who have invaded his father’s house. The goddess is seen helping Odysseus in almost every book, most notably the last four where she gives him strength when fighting the suitors, helping Odysseus and Telemachus reach Laertes’ house peacefully, and even makes the suitor’s parents forget about their children’s deaths and restores peace to Ithaca. Athena makes the homecoming of Odysseus a happy one, helping him and his family time and time again so that they are reunited. Poseidon, god of the sea, holds a nasty grudge against Odysseus throughout the story. Odysseus, after the famous â€Å"Nobody† trick, foolishly tells the Cyclopes Polyphemus his name as he is sailing away after blinding him. Poseidon, who is Polyphemus’ father, is outraged that a mortal blinded his son, and take it upon himself to make sure Odysseus never gets back home. Poseidon causes storms to break Odysseus’ boats and kill his men, while wrecking havoc on Odysseus just about every chance he gets. He goes so far that he asks Zeus to sink the Phaeacians ship, a race of people who adore Poseidon. Poseidon holds a major grudge against Odysseus, however he cannot stop him from reaching home. In the Christian scripture passage Psalm 139; taken from the Bible, we see that God has many of the same characteristics on the gods in The Odyssey. It is described in the scripture passage that God has a perfect knowledge of all of us, which draws the comparison to the gods of Ancient Greece. God knows everything there is to know about us and what we are doing; he is all seeing and all powerful. Much like the gods of Ancient Greece sitting high above everyone on Mount Olympus, they see everything that is happening below them. Another powerful comparison is the unseen god factor. God always sees us, as humans though we never see him, much like when Odysseus and Telemachus see Athena; she is always disguised, never showing her true form. Zeus never appears, he sends his messages in forms of eagles, as signs to be interrupted by humans, much like God uses miracles to show his presence and existence. We are presented with two separate pieces of literature that have very similar comparisons in religion. Wilfred Owen’s famous poem â€Å"Dulce et Decorum Est† actually makes no mention of religion in it, but it is obvious to see that whatever god you pray to has no part in wars and stopping the death and violence. It brings us to ask ourselves the question of why would any god let these atrocities happen? British citizens not fighting in World War 1 thought that these men were dying heroic deaths, but Owen gives us an insight into how badly these men suffered when they went off to war. The gruesome deaths, the never ending violence and having to watch a comrade die are just a few of the horrible things that are seen in this poem. It leads us to belive that war is not worth it, in any sense, and that a sensible god would not allow it. Odysseus, after ten years of fighting the Trojans and seeing many of his close friends die, then had to suffer for an additional ten years. The men in World War 1 signed up for their own premature deaths, and there was no religious power to stop these cruel actions. All three of these pieces give us significant insight on our Common Core questions. However, it ties in most importantly to our understanding of what it means to be human. Most obvious in all three pieces we see the â€Å"human† aspects of our lives, the fact that we can die while gods or God cannot. We are not as powerful as gods or God, we cannot control our fate, and it is already written out for us by whomever we pray to in each respective religion. We must make the most of the time and life we are given because we do not have a long time on this planet. To be human means that we must be able to recognize our own abilities, our own strengthens and weaknesses, and know that there is a higher power controlling our fate. Portrait Of The Artist As Young Man Essays (1090 words)

Portrait Of The Artist As Young Man Religion is an important and recurring theme in James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Through his experiences with religion, Stephen Dedalus both matures and progressively becomes more individualistic as he grows. Though reared in a Catholic school, several key events lead Stephen to throw off the yoke of conformity and choose his own life, the life of an artist. Religion is central to the life of Stephen Dedalus the child. He was reared in a strict, if not harmonious, Catholic family. The severity of his parents, trying to raise him to be a good Catholic man, is evidenced by statements such as, "Pull out his eyes/ Apologise/ Apologise/ Pull out his eyes." This strict conformity shapes Stephen's life early in boarding school. Even as he is following the precepts of his Catholic school, however, a disillusionment becomes evident in his thoughts. The priests, originally above criticism or doubt in Stephen's mind, become symbols of intolerance. Chief to these thoughts is Father Dolan, whose statements such as, "Lazy little schemer. I see schemer in your face," exemplify the type of attitude Stephen begins to associate with his Catholic teachers. By the end of Chapter One, Stephen's individualism and lack of tolerance for disrespect become evident when he complains to the rector about the actions of Father Dolan. His confused attitude is clearly displayed by the end of the chapter when he says, "He was happy and free: but he would not be anyway proud with Father Dolan. He would be very kind and obedient: and he wished that he could do something kind for him to show him that he was not proud." Stephen still has respect for his priests, but he has lost his blind sense of acceptance. As Stephen grows, he slowly but inexorably distances himself from religion. His life becomes one concerned with pleasing his friends and family. However, as he matures he begins to feel lost and hopeless, stating, "He saw clearly too his own futile isolation. He had not gone one step nearer the lives he had sought to approach nor bridged the restless shame and rancor that divided him from mother and brother and sister." It is this very sense of isolation and loneliness that leads to Stephen's encounter with the prostitute, where, "He wanted to sin with another of his kind, to force another being to sin with him and to exult with her in sin." He wants to be loved, but the nearest thing he can find is prostitution. In the aftermath of this encounter and the numerous subsequent encounters, a feeling of guilt and even more pronounced loneliness begins to invade Stephen's being. Chapter Three represents the turning point of the novel, for here Stephen turns his life around. After the sermon on sin and hell, Stephen examines his soul and sees the shape it is in, wondering, "Why was he kneeling there like a child saying his evening prayers? To be alone with his soul, to examine his conscience, to meet his sins face to face, to recall their times and manners and circumstances, to weep over them." Religion pushes its way suddenly and unexpectedly back into Stephen's life. After his confession at the end of Chapter Three, he begins to lead a life nearly as devout as that of his Jesuit teachers and mentors. Even as he leads this life, however, shades of his former self are obliquely evident through statements such as, "This idea had a perilous attraction for his mind now that he felt his soul beset once again by the insistent voices of the flesh which began to murmur to him again during his prayers and meditations." Here it is evident that, even as his life becomes more and more devout, he can never lead the perfect and sinless life of the Jesuit. The offer of a position as a priest is met by memories of his childhood at Clongowes and thoughts such as, "He wondered how he would pass the first night in the novitiate and with what dismay he would wake the first morning in the dormitory." Stephen realizes that the clerical collar would be too tight for him to wear. A walk on the beach confirms this thought in Stephen's mind through the statement, "Heavenly God! cried Stephen's soul in an outburst of profane joy." The sight of a woman and the knowledge that, as a priest, he could not even talk to her, finally convinces Stephen to abandon religion.

Ozraptor - Facts and Figures

Ozraptor - Facts and Figures Name: Ozraptor (Greek for lizard from Oz): pronounced OZ-rap-tore Habitat: Woodlands of Australia Historical Period: Middle Jurassic (175 million years ago) Size and Weight: About nine feet long and 100 pounds Diet: Meat Distinguishing Characteristics: Moderate size; bipedal posture About Ozraptor Sometimes, a single leg bone can be enough to shed light on a creature that lived 175 million years ago. Thats the case with the Australian Ozraptor, the partial tibia of which was first identified as belonging to a Jurassic turtle, and then reassigned to a new (and relatively early) genus of theropod (meat-eating dinosaur) closely related to the South American Abelisaurus. Until more fossil specimens are identified, though, thats all we may ever know about this distinctively named dinosaurand you should know that many experts are extremely skeptical about the existence of various dinosaur families, such as tyrannosaurs and ornithomimids (bird mimics), in the lands Down Under. One thing you we can definitely say about Ozraptor is that it was not technically a raptor, the family of dinosaurs typified by the North American Deinonychus and the central Asian Velociraptor (somewhat confusingly, paleontologists love to attach the raptor root to non-raptor dinosaurs, such as Gigantoraptor and Megaraptor). Raptors were a distinctive family of theropods that lived during the middle to late Cretaceous period, and were characterized, among other things, by their presumed coats of feathers and single, oversized, curving claws on each of their hind feetthus ruling out the middle Jurassic Ozraptor, whatever type of dinosaur it turns out to be!

Database Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Database - Coursework Example This allows or revokes access to the database for authorized users only. It also restricts on the actions that authorized users are allowed to perform on the database. This is the main method of securing data in a database. Access to the database mostly requires correct username and a password which is assigned by the database administrator. The database administrator identifies legitimate users of the database and assigns each a passwords that they use to directly or indirectly access the database for manipulation, retrieval or updating of the data. The second issue that is concerned with database security is database vulnerabilities. Threats from a variety of sources such as internet and users should be identified and minimized to reduce the chances of the database security being breached. This could be done through use of firewalls to manage the network traffic in the organization and also, through controlled access to the database for the users. Updates and patches to the databas e management system should be routinely done to help enhance the security of the database. The database administrator should be updated on the current trends of security so that he/she can mend the database where such vulnerabilities occur. The third aspect on database security is auditing. ... For instance, in the case of Happy Homes Ltd, applications could be used to record the sales of houses. This and many others are potential sources of database threats as they may leave vulnerabilities in the database. The database administrator should be in a position to determine the permissions of the applications so that he/she can regulate them (Alfred Basta, 2011). Distributed Database Management System This database system connects a variety of databases in various regions over a network and operates in a way that the users are not aware of the distributed databases. In the case of Happy Homes Ltd, the databases could be located in various regions and then have a central server that synchronizes the operations of the whole system. Each region’s database handles information related to that region and when there is need, it shares its resources with other database system s in other regions. A sample diagram for the Happy Homes Ltd could be defined as: In each region, a ser ver helps in the management of the regional system. It also helps in communication among the various regional offices and to the main server. Data is stored in the database at a given region. A backup copy of these data is stored in the main database system at the organization headquarters. Storage of data in these areas helps in easier and quicker access to the data. Centralizing the data in one area reduces the system performance as compared to distributed system. Maintenance and administration of the distributed system is also easy as it can be done as per region. This makes it easier for database administrators since incase repairs are going on in one area other regions are not affected by the repairs. Troubleshooting and handling

An empirical evaluation of the Purchasing Power Parity Dissertation

An empirical evaluation of the Purchasing Power Parity - Dissertation Example In pursuit of investigating the empirical validity of the PPP theory, this study uses the monthly Japanese Yen to US Dollar exchange rate and the seasonally adjusted Japanese and US monthly Consumer Price Index series as the representative of the price levels as available from OECD main economic indicators 2010. Our data set covers a sample period ranging from 1st January1960 to 1st June 2010. The indexing of CPI for both the Japanese and US series is in accordance with assuming the price level of 2005=100.5.  EstimationThis section presents the results of the estimations specified in section 2. We start of by presenting the statistical preliminaries and time series plots of the variables to engender a preconception of what can be expected from the estimated equations. a.  Statistical preliminariesTable 1 presents the summary statistics for the variables of interest. Note that these are expressed in terms of natural logarithms of the levels.Figure 1 below depicts the inter-tempor al dynamics of the natural logarithm of the series of Japanese Yen to US Dollar Exchange rates. Observe that the series provides a clear visual evidence of a downward trend implying that over the period of 1970 to 2011, there has been a gradual decline in the exchange rate. Additionally, the series also appears to be non-stationary. Of course stationarity properties can only be conclusively verified after formal conduction of unit root tests. Figure 3 presents the time plots of Japanese and US consumer price indices in logs.... tion: where is the natural log of the Japanese Yen to US Dollar exchange rate at time t, is the natural log of the price level index of Japan and is the natural log of the price level index of USA and is an additive iid noise term. 3. Testable Hypothesis The hypotheses that we can test using this specification are as follows: i) Strong or absolute PPP: ii) Relatively weaker form of PPP: ? iii) Weakest form of PPP: ? Note that for ii) and iii) to be valid specifications, the additive error term will have to be stationary. Otherwise estimates will be spurious. 4. In my MBA course to write the assignments we need to read a lot. So it might take time to improve this skill but it is quite important to develop as to get good grades in course. My target date will be 30th of June when my third quadmester finishes. Introduction: Every individual has a unique learning style. Understanding of learning style helps an individual in improvement in his achievements in every aspect like academic, career, creativity. Learning style is a composition of different characteristics which includes cognitive, physiological and affective factors that acts as an indicator of how a learner perceives, interacts with others and responds to the learning environment (Messick, 1976). It also indicates the method which shows how a person deals with the information given to him. An individual has their own ability which mainly consist of their own styles and performance but learning style helps in understand that how a person remember things, his thinking ability or even his way of solving problem. Background: In this essay I will discuss about the different learning styles and also the factors that influences learning styles and the areas I need to develop as a learner which helps me in my academics. I will discuss my current academic skills and the skills I need to develop to do well in my MBA and to achieve my goal of getting good grades in my all assignments. Finally I will discuss about the growth of mindset which I need as a learner. As solving the questionnaire of VARK learning style I came to know that I can learn best by hearing or by read/write. This learning style is good for me in my course as in my lectures I need hear and understands what my tutor says and so learning while hearing is very important for me. Even reading and writing are very important learning styles for me in my course as I have to write a lot of reports and essays which requires a lot of research and for that read different sources. As from my tutor feedbacks from my leadership essay assignment I need to read and understand the aspects in broader way and with the help of those feedbacks I discovered few ways which helps me in developing this particular skill which are: Use of dictionary to improve my vocabulary. Reading text books and making notes. Reading newspapers or novels while travelling. Listing documentaries. Writing daily dairy. According to me with these steps I can more improve my learning style on reading and writing more. However, according to Kolb learning cycle; learning is continuous in nature it doesnt have any end. Learners need to learn different aspects from their experiences and the environment. According to Kolbs cycle reflection and internalising are the two main stages of learning and according to Honey and Mumford learning style activist, reflectors, theorist and pragmatist are the four types of learner and I think I am a pragmatist which means I learn by linking the subject matter with the problems. Pragmatist acts quickly and confidently on ideas and get straight to the point and like to get feedback and guidance and I believe feedback helps me a lot in improving my skills. Skills to be developed and improved: Apart from the learning styles there are some skills which are needed to improve academically. After understanding my course I have discovered some academic skills appropriate for the programme of the study. The following narration explains the analysis of how I found out my strengths and weakness and the resources which are required to improve and develop them within a chosen period of time Communication Skill: It is needed by any person to do well academically and it is also one of my strengths. I believe as per Birvenu (1987) communication is a process of transmitting ideas, feelings, attitudes and belief between living beings and thats why for a n effective team work communication skill is very important. According to the statement from Walter and Scott (1979) describes that I can listen well what I want to. From the feedback from my tutor my communication skills are good enough she scored me 2 out of 3 but also said me to improve my listening skills which is an important part of communication. After solving the quiz on communication of Dr. Guffey in got a feedback of good communication skills but an improvement in listening skills. It is important also as I need to work with teams in my course and if I do not listen to them properly I may not able to understand their point of view which leads to hamper on my assignments. To improve my this skill I started reading books by authors like P ramila Ahuja GC Ahuja (2007) which have a practical approach to listen effectively especially and from the book of Lisa J Downs (2008) where she discussed about the importance of self awareness in being a good listener. Time Management Skills: Art of time management is important to do the work effectively and efficiently. By a quiz on this I come to know that I am good in time management but there are some interruptions which I should manage and even I think it is my one of the biggest weaknesses. Time management plays a very important role in my academics because if I miss my classes then I may lose many of the information given by my tutor and the discussions between my group members. By doing my SWOT analysis I felt that time management can be one of my strength if I grip my interruptions well. An example from book Managing Time (2007) which is when a salesman gets interruption by his phone call during his work which leads in discontinuation of work, it happens same with me like phone ring, message beep etc interrupts my mind during my work. To manage this I need to improve my concentration level by doing some meditation and yoga exercises. Team Work: In this era to do your work you need to work in teams. As with me in my first assignment of the course I need to do a presentation with my team which consist of people of different cultures. To do well in academics I have to develop my skills of working as a team member and I do not do well than it will effect on my academics. To improve this I start getting feedbacks from my team members where I found that sometimes I am not able to understand their point of view and I do not want that my this weakness hamper my studies so I start reading books on how to work effectively in team by David Clutter buck (2007) and Michel A West (1997). In performing leadership roles an individual must be an effective team player. By doing a questionnaire of Kurt Lewin I found myself as a participative and delegative leader which is very important to lead a team, even I lead a team in my first assignment of sustainable strategy. Quantitative Analysis skills: It is deals with estimating results and computational operations. It reflects the ability of analytic skills. I consider as accountancy is one of my weaknesses and I want develop this skill quickly before it effects my studies negatively. As my course is financial services I need is to have a vast and deep knowledge about the finance. I should understand the charts and numbers which are there in the module. To enhance my skills I think I should watch business channels or news channels like BBC and reading magazines like business today, and newspaper like financial times etc. with this help I can update myself with the financial market and able to understand the quantitative terms. Books like L.S. Porwal (2001) Clyde P Stickney, Kathrin Schipper; Roman L Wei (2009) also helped me a lot in improving my knowledge about balance sheet and cash flows. During the assignments of finance I analyse the financial data of Tesco PLC and Lloyds TSB Bank. This also helps in improving my finance ski lls. Presentation skills: Presentation skills are required for effective communication in both speech and written format. For this skill I need to improve my delivery of speech, body language and organising and writing of data. I planned to do rehearsals and collecting feedbacks from my mentors and group members. Even watching different speeches and documentaries of scholars on internet website like YouTube etc also helped me effectively to improve my skills. A good presenter must keep the attention of the audience towards himself and to gain this ability I think I should do time to time rehearsals before my final presentation. Using of technology by watching my video of giving presentation also helps me in identifying my weak points. Conclusion: After evaluating my core skills and by doing questionnaires and getting feedback from both the tutors and team members I can conclude that my strength lays in motivation powers either self or others. I manage my time effectively and I am a kinaesthetic leader and to do well in my studies I should attend classes and discussions. I should take advantage of my skill of participative and delegative leader in leading a team by delegate appropriate work to each member and by taking participate in their work. However, I also need to learn accounting principles and rules and ways of effective presentation and listing others and others point of view with managing interruptions and taking feedbacks which helps me in achieving my goal of becoming an MBA in global financial services with A grade.
